Dynegy – Environmental Compliance Program
Matrix NAC completed construction management services for Power Maintenance & Constructors, LLC who contracted with Dynegy Midwest Generation to complete a series of projects for Dynegy’s Environmental Program.
Dynegy is a provider of wholesale power, capacity, and ancillary services to utilities, cooperatives, municipalities, and other energy companies in 12 states throughout the Midwest, Northeast, and West Coast. The company’s power generation portfolio consists of more than 17,700 MW of baseload, intermediate, and peaking power plants fueled by a mix of coal, fuel oil, and natural gas.
Beginning in 2006 and through 2009, with participation from the U.S. Department of Energy, improvements were made to the facility’s emissions profile and fuel efficiency. This included the completion of mercury control systems at the Vermillion and Hennepin plants and the construction of fluidized gas desulfurization systems at the Havana Station and Baldwin Energy Complex.
Upon completion of these projects, Dynegy’s Midwest fleet will have achieved a 90 percent reduction in sulfur dioxides and nitrogen oxide emissions over the past decade. All of the baghouse and scrubber projects were completed in 2012, and will further improve the Midwest fleet’s standing as one of the cleanest operating coal fleets in the U.S., not only with sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides but for mercury and other emissions as well.
The Havana and Baldwin FGD projects consist of carbon injection, spray dryer absorbers, and two fabric filters for each of the unites. Both Vermillion and Hennepin’s environmental projects consisted of carbon injection systems with fabric filters.
